Do you care about intellectual disability and want to do something for the rights of people with ID? There is a lot of work to be done! Having an Intellectual Disability (ID) does not mean being dependent. It only means that the brain learns, works and communicates in a different way. It also means having different abilities and gifts. A person with ID may need more time to learn, or may need extra help from time to time adapting to new situations. “Having ID only means that the brain works, communicates and learns in a different way” But it also means being very good at performing repetitive tasks, being very self-motivated in daily routine. It may also mean being attentive to detail and hard-working. The On My Own At Work project aims to put job inclusion for those with Intellectual Disabilities in the limelight in Europe. With the aid of an app, many people with ID are finding their career path in the catering and hotel industries.
What can I do?
If you are a company with Corporate Social Responsibility, that cares about quality for their customers and clients and want to promote staff diversity, contact OMO partners in your country to join the project. If you want to know more, don’t miss the opportunity of attending these events.
If you are a client who seeks excellence in customer services and that cares about responsible companies, tell the world that you care about employment opportunities for all, without discriminating against ID. Follow us on social media, and know which hotels and restaurants act responsibly with their staff in practice.
If you or somebody you know has an Intellectual Disability, please contact us through our partners, and we will help you to find your place in the job market!
If you are a customer who cares about ID, tell hotels and restaurants that you appreciate staff diversity
